How We Worship

First Baptist Church exists to worship the true and living God (Isaiah 43:7). We believe that everything we do should be an act of worship (1 Corinthians 10:31). Gathering regularly with God’s people to worship our Lord together is an important part of the life of worship we are called to lead (Hebrews 10:25). Worship services at FBC Slaton center on Scripture and focus on responding rightly to God’s word.

We meet every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and begin each service by reading Scripture as a call to worship. We then sing songs that honor God and typify a right response to God’s word. We also include a call to prayer, children’s message, and expository sermon as part of every worship service.

Worship in the Word

First Baptist Church is committed to the authority of the Bible as the word of God. Our interim pastor and staff seek to draw the content of their sermons directly from the Bible as much as possible. They believe it is the duty of the preacher to set forth, explain, and apply the meaning of a passage of Scripture to the lives of 21st century believers and seekers.

Worship in Song

The songs we sing in our worship services are chosen because they exalt Christ and teach Biblical truth. We recognize the value of time-tested hymns and the wonderful doctrine they teach, while also incorporating some of the best worship music from the present day. While style of music is important, it is most important that our music honor our Creator, Savior, and Lord.

Choir

Our choir consists of people of all ages, mostly untrained volunteers who just love to worship the Lord in song. We meet on Sunday afternoons at 5pm (4pm the 1st Sunday of the month) for rehearsals. Anyone who wishes to join is invited. There is no signup or audition. We help lead the worship services in song, occasionally present an anthem (special music) and present programs at Christmas or other times during the year.

If interested in joining us, contact the church office at (806) 828-5886 or just show up on Sunday afternoon.

“Let the word of Christ dwell richly among you, in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another through psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.”
